India ISI certification
The full name of ISI is Indian Standards Institution, which is the most stringent type of BIS certification at present, including factory audit and product testing. ISI certification has a mandatory product catalog, covering building materials, chemicals, household appliances, medical equipment, vehicle parts, food, etc. The products listed in the mandatory ISI catalogue must obtain the license granted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) before they can be put on the Indian market. The initial ISI certification is valid for one year, and the renewal can be extended to 1-5 years.
The ISI mark consists of the license number “CM/L-XXXXXXXXX” at the bottom of the ISI mark and the Indian Standard number “IS: XXXX” at the top. After successfully obtain ISI certificate, the manufacturer can use the ISI mark on the product packaging.
1. Collect all required documents (including application forms) and sort them out. All documents must be in English;
2. Submit the required documents in duplicate in hard-copy to the BIS Administration, pay the application fee, and copy the backup to the FMCD department;

1. If the submitted documents are incomplete or have errors and omissions, BIS officials will send an email to communicate with the applicant.
2. If BIS officials have no objection to the submitted documents, BIS will send a case confirmation number to the applicant.
1. BIS officials will inspect the factory on the date agreed by both parties, and the applicant shall pay the factory inspection fee.
2. BIS officials mainly inspect the manufacturing process, testing instruments and laboratories of the factory.
3. BIS officials will require to obtain product samples and get them to BIS approved laboratories for testing. The test results will be sent to BIS Administration, and the applicant will pay for the testing.
1. Factory inspection and sample test meet BIS requirements.
2. The applicant shall pay the certificate fee, marking fee and certain bank deposit.
3. After completing all procedures, the applicant will be issued a certificate.
Duration: It is estimated to be around 3 – 4 months.
