On October 13, 2023, the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) issued “the Notice of Matters Concerning the Capability Test of WLAN Equipment Supporting IPv6 Protocol in the Type Approval of Radio Transmission Equipment (SRRC approval) “ (hereinafter referred to as the “Notice”).
Starting from December 1, 2023, when applying for the SRRC approval for WLAN equipment, IPv6 protocol testing must be performed in accordance with the technical requirements and test methods specified in the “Notice” . At the same time, from that date onwards, the relevant enterprises shall stop manufacturing or importing WLAN equipment that does not meet the requirements of this “Notice”. However, WLAN equipment manufactured or imported before this date may continue to be sold and used until it is out of life.
For WLAN equipment, It requires that IPv6 address allocation function shall be enabled by default, and users are allowed to configure it by themselves.
Basic technical requirements:
1. WLAN equipment with public IP address allocation must support the IPv6 protocol and enable IPv6 by default.
2. WLAN equipment with public IP address allocation, when operating in Layer 2 bridging mode, must support the transparent transmission of IPv6 packets.
3. WLAN equipment with the public IP address allocation, when operating in Layer 3 routing mode, must support the allocation of IPv6 addresses to access users and support user for the forwarding of IPv6 data packets
Test Scenario:
Test Scenario 1: Network equipment work in Layer 3 routing mode, and WLAN equipment work in Layer 2 bridging mode.
Test Scenario 2: Network equipment work in Layer 2 bridging mode, and WLAN equipment work in Layer 3 routing mode.
Test Scenario 3: Both network equipment and WLAN equipment work in Layer 3 routing mode.
Test scenario 1 and test scenario 2 are mandatory, and test scenario 3 is optional.
